Sacramento County Sheriff's Office investigators are working a gun violence incident that occurred on April 18 2026 at Howe Community Park in the Arden-Arcade area at the moment Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies were shutting down a large unauthorized gathering of hundreds of attendees.
Background
Sacramento County law enforcement initially responded to Howe Community Park just after 6:30 PM on April 18 after obtaining information of individuals possibly carrying concealed weapons. After that, a follow-up call was made describing a reported physical confrontation taking place within the park grounds.
An overhead unit scanned the area from the air but could not confirm any ongoing fight. Regardless, it was apparent that hundreds of people had packed into the park in an unauthorized manner.
The Shooting Itself
Officers set about removing people from the park by forming a perimeter and using their vehicle PA systems ordering those gathered to clear out. Nearly 15 minutes were given for individuals to vacate.
While deputies worked to disperse the gathering that upwards of 20 gunshots were Sacramento park shooting 2026 discharged. The rapid succession of shots caused mass panic. Deputies wasted no time in looking for those injured.
Four Gunshot Victims
Altogether, four gunshot victims were discovered with shooting injuries. The victims — including a female and three males all reportedly in their twenties — were taken to area medical facilities. Doctors and nurses indicated that two of the four had injuries classified as immediate, one of the four had moderate gunshot wounds, and one sustained minor gunshot wounds. Thankfully, all four were in stable condition.
The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District provided support and provided medical assistance shooting victims prior to hospital transport.
Crime Scene Evidence
The bulk of the shooting was confirmed to have happened adjacent to Cottage Way adjacent to the Home Depot situated at the 2200 block of Howe Avenue. Detectives identified extra shell casings throughout the Cottage Way area. Projectile impacts were identified in the iron fence near the Home Depot store. This ballistic evidence indicated that at least one shooter had been shooting in a southerly direction from the Cottage Way area targeting the Home Depot building and parking lot. The nearby Home Depot was temporarily locked down for a period of time. CSI investigators and detectives worked tirelessly late into the evening.
Suspects Detained
Information obtained via scanner audio revealed that a suspect Kia had been stopped in the Solano County area. Four individuals were held for questioning. Deputies were heading to pick up the four detainees to pick up those detained for processing in Sacramento County. Footage analyzed by investigators made clear that two individuals had fired weapons.
